My Insights: OpenAI's first DevDay

Sam 'alternative man' Altman, CEO of OpenAI who is in partnership with Microsoft and is (in)famous for ChatGPT, opened their first Developers Day conference yesterday. If you're interested in Ai, I'd recommend watching his 45-minute keynote. Below are my quick thoughts... 💭

📰 TLDR;

  • OpenAI celebrated a year of achievements and growth and reflected on milestones, including the launch of ChatGPT, GPT-4, voice and vision capabilities, and DALL-E 3, all through its ChatGPT platform. Having all these different mode capabilities in one place is called 'Multimodal'.

  • OpenAI shared the impressive adoption and positive impact of its AI platform, including how ChatGPT's multimodal approach is making communications more equitable for people with challenges, such as introducing speech conversations to generate text and images and actions when you can't use your hands.

💡 Key Points:

  • OpenAI emphasizes the importance of user feedback in shaping their products.

  • GPT-4 Turbo is introduced, addressing requests for longer input length, more control, better world search knowledge, new modes, customisation, and quicker generation rate.

  • OpenAI announced the Custom Models program (GPT Builder), offering tailored models for specific use cases. Anyone will be able to create their own specific mini-focused ChatGPTs called 'GPTs' using conversation (text) to platform without any knowledge of coding necessary. It can use your knowledge and/or collected knowledge. These will be the first iteration of enmass Ai assistants and will feature in a GPT online storefront. Watch this space as this will be groundbreaking, particularly for comms folk. I'll share more on this soon.

  • Pricing is significantly reduced for GPT-4 Turbo, making it cost-effective for developers.

  • OpenAI's partnership with Microsoft is praised, with a focus on building infrastructure to support advanced AI workloads. Watch out workplace! They'll be a premium for businesses I'm sure, but it'll be worth it.

🚀 Future Plans:

  • OpenAI aims to improve the speed of GPT-4 Turbo and decrease the cost of GPT-3.5 Turbo 16K.

  • OpenAI expresses excitement for upcoming developments and continued collaboration with Microsoft.
